Personal Development

You've reached a plateau in your current job and you're thinking maybe you should move on and find something different to do in your line of work, maybe a new career. Do you jump or stick it out hoping things will change and get better? As your coach I would instruct you to conduct a self assessment, or a SWOT analysis. A SWOT analysis is when you identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of your situation. This can be a very beneficial exercise and very thought provoking.

What are you good at doing? Can you take a class to become even better? Be a subject matter expert focusing in a specific area. Now, this next step will be challenging. What can you improve? I know you think you're at the top of your game, but let's face it, we all need a little refresher every now and then. You're halfway there. Now look at the opportunities associated with what you are thinking about doing in a new career. Or, maybe you're not seeking the career change and want to stay with your employer. That's great so let's look at where the opportunities are with your current employer. Moving on, your next challenge is to identify any threats with your decision.

You're done! This is your personal develop action plan. Take a minute and write it down in a more succinct manner. Type it up. Go over it at least once a month if not more. Most importantly, DO SOMETHING! You can't be stagnant.

If you haven't figured it out yet, by this time you should have at least 3 to 5 goals in mind as you move through your personal development action plan. Write them down and do the work to check them off the list. We will talk more in a future blog session about goal setting.

Have a great month!
